Need for a dedicated Farmer's Market
Published Here When the McEwen School of Architecture took hold of their downtown location, they booted the longstanding farmers’ market, located in the wooden CP Rail building. While I readily agree with the decision of putting the architecture school downtown, I certainly miss the experience I had as a child, going to the market with my mom, getting some sweets and perhaps watching a show at the small stage. The farmers’ market is now using tents, intermittently on Thursda

Student-designed bus shelters
Published Here Sudbury suffers from a case of bad transit. I don’t say this to disparage anyone in particular, but it’s no surprise that the system isn’t popular. Inconsistent arrival and departure times and little-to-no service in outlying areas are examples of the underlying causes and/or symptoms of an experience that leaves a lot to be desired. I believe that part of this issue is the state of the bus stops, which are often limited to a sign, and offer no shelter from t

Floating Photovoltaic panels
Published Here It has come to my attention that in the Greater Sudbury Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP), released in 2019, a portion of the document is dedicated to implementing local clean energy generation measures. According to the plan, this section outlines specific goals, which will see the power grid wholly replaced with renewable, green energy. Carbon Sequestering CLT Housing
Published here Hello, the Greater Sudbury Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) outlines a plan for an increase in regreening efforts as part of its goals to increase Carbon Sequestration. In this document, the desired outcome for 2050 is to quadruple carbon sequestration rates. This goal sounds lovely! However, I am wondering if there might be a way to incorporate a circular economy within this system. Canada already has a robust, sustainable forestry sector; surely the

Durham Street Pedestrianization
Published here I recently returned from a trip to Montréal, where I spent much of my time walking and biking around the city's many streets. Of note, Avenue Mont Royal, which is a completely pedestrianized road, really struck me as something we could achieve in Sudbury. Durham St, in Downtown Sudbury is already host to many restaurants and patios, shops, and amenities which make it a lively place to be. That isn't even mentioning the events that take place on this street, not

Old Hospital Refurbishment
Published here I, like many people in Sudbury have followed the state of the old St. Joseph hospital building with interest, hope, despair, and derision during the many stages of this story. Between the building’s purchase by Panoramic Properties, to Risk’s mural, and everything that’s happened (or lack thereof) in-between. The wait has been long and uncertain. I applaud the efforts by those that tried to keep the spirit of the project’s potential alive. The latest news, afte
